Pods, cartridges,
or oils?
Three fragrance media, three device families, zero interchangeability. The plain-English map of what goes where — and how to make sure you're buying the right refill.
Scentsy sells three types of fragrance media: 15 mL Fragrance Cartridges (for the Solo cordless smart diffuser), Scentsy Pods (fragrance discs for all Air-family fan diffusers — Air, Air Mini, Air Solo, Air Go, Air Quad), and Scentsy Oils (for water-based/ultrasonic diffusers such as the Enrich). Each pairs with a specific device family. Cartridges only fit the Solo. Pods only fit Air-family devices. Oils only go in water-based ultrasonic diffusers. Pods and cartridges are not interchangeable. Oils are not a substitute for either. Buying the wrong media is the single most common mistake new Scentsy diffuser owners make.
I'm Chaely, an Independent Scentsy Consultant, and this page exists because the most common message I get every week from a new customer is some version of: "I just bought a Scentsy diffuser and I'm not sure what refills to order." The short answer is that the device you own decides the media you shop for — not the other way around. Below is the whole map, plus a decision flow at the bottom for the people who already know which device they have and just need to know which shelf to buy from.
The three-way comparison
| Media | Devices it fits | Lifespan | Approximate price | How it works |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 15 mL Fragrance Cartridges | Scentsy Solo (only) | 4–6 weeks | $40 each ($36 with Club or 2+, $30 as Club half-price product on $60+) | Sealed cartridge snaps into the Solo; waterless nebulizing atomizes the fragrance oil directly |
| Scentsy Pods | Every Air-family device: Air, Air Mini/Mini+, Air Solo, Air Go/Go+, Air Quad | ~30 days per Pod | Multi-pack pricing; confirm on storefront | Fragrance-loaded disc/pod inserts into the Air device; a small fan blows air across it to disperse scent |
| Scentsy Oils & blends | Water-based / ultrasonic diffusers (Enrich and related models) | Varies by drop count and run time | Confirm on storefront | You add drops of oil to a tap-water reservoir; ultrasonic vibration produces a cool fragrant mist |
Read this table left to right. The device you own is what determines which row is yours — and each row's media is only useful in that row's device.
Media 1 — 15 mL Fragrance Cartridges
Scentsy Solo cartridges are 15 mL sealed reservoirs of fragrance oil that snap into the top of the Scentsy Solo. They are the newest fragrance format in Scentsy's catalog and were engineered from scratch to work with the Solo's waterless nebulizing technology. Because the cartridge is sealed, there's no oil to handle, no spill risk, and no cleanup on the surrounding surface. You pull the old one out, click the new one in, and the app or manual controls take it from there.
Life: 4–6 weeks of typical home use. That range depends on how many hours per day the Solo is running and what intensity you've set. On the "always-on low" schedule the app was basically designed for, most cartridges land near the higher end of that range. If you're running high intensity for eight hours a day, you'll be closer to four weeks.
Price: $40 each. With Scentsy Club, cartridges drop to $36. On a qualifying Club order of $60 or more, one cartridge can be added at half price ($30). That's usually the best per-cartridge price available.
Library size: 16 Solo-specific fragrances as of June 2026, across six scent families. Full spotlights and reviews for each are on the catalog page.
Does not fit: anything else. Solo cartridges will not physically insert into any Air-family device or into a water-based diffuser. There is no adapter.
Media 2 — Scentsy Pods
Scentsy Pods are the fragrance medium for the entire Air family — the fan-powered devices in Scentsy's waxless lineup. A Pod is essentially a fragrance-loaded disc or cartridge (Scentsy's terminology, not to be confused with the 15 mL Solo cartridges) that slots into an Air-family device. A quiet internal fan blows air across the Pod and disperses the fragrance into the room. No water, no heat, no app required.
Life: approximately 30 days per Pod in typical use. Some Pods, some intensity settings, and some devices skew a few days either direction, but "about a month" is the rule I give people.
Price: Pods are sold in multi-packs, generally at a friendlier per-Pod cost than Solo cartridges. Exact pricing shifts with Scentsy's seasonal promotions, so confirm on the storefront before you buy.
Cross-device flexibility: this is the Pod's superpower. One Pod library works across every Air-family device you own — Air Mini in the powder room, Air Go in the car, Air Quad in the great room. If you're building a multi-device Scentsy household on a single fragrance shelf, Pods are how you do it.
Does not fit: the Scentsy Solo. Pods are physically shaped for the Air family's fan-and-slot design and do not adapt to the Solo's nebulizer. And Pods will not work in a water-based diffuser — they aren't designed to be submerged.
Media 3 — Scentsy Oils
Scentsy Oils are Scentsy's fragrance oils designed for water-based (ultrasonic) diffusers, including the Enrich. This is the most traditional-feeling of the three media — the way most people already picture "using a diffuser." You fill the diffuser's small reservoir with tap water, add a few drops of oil, and the ultrasonic transducer produces a fine, gentle, visible mist that carries the fragrance into the room.
Life: variable, and mostly under your control. It depends on the drop count you use, how long the diffuser runs per session, and the size of the reservoir. That's actually the point — oils let you dial intensity in a way neither cartridges nor Pods do.
Price: confirm on the Scentsy storefront. Oils are sold individually and often in blends. Prices vary by scent and bottle size.
Layering: because oils are drops in water rather than sealed refills, you can layer them. Two oils today, a different two tomorrow — that flexibility is only available in this family.
Does not fit: the Solo (cartridges only) or any Air-family device (Pods only). Pouring oil into a Solo or an Air device will not work and can damage the equipment. Water-based diffusers are the only place Scentsy Oils belong.
Cartridges, Pods, and Oils cannot be swapped between device families.
This is the single most important line on this page. If you own a Scentsy Solo, do not buy Pods — they won't fit. If you own an Air Mini, do not buy 15 mL cartridges — they won't fit. If you own an Enrich or other water-based diffuser, do not pour fragrance oil into any other Scentsy device. Each device family has one media that belongs in it. Scentsy does not sell adapters, and none of these formats are physically compatible with anything but the family they were designed for.
How to know which media you need
Start with the device on your counter, not the fragrance in the ad. If you already own a Scentsy diffuser, the media choice was made for you the moment you unboxed it.
The flow, in six lines
- Do you own the Scentsy Solo? Buy 15 mL Fragrance Cartridges. Not Pods.
- Do you own an Air Mini, Air, Air Solo, Air Go, or Air Quad? Buy Scentsy Pods. Not cartridges.
- Do you own the Enrich or another ultrasonic diffuser? Buy Scentsy Oils. Not Pods or cartridges.
- Do you own a Scentsy warmer? That's a wax product, not covered on this page. See Scentsy diffuser vs warmer.
- Not sure which device you own? Look at how the fragrance goes in. If it snaps in as a sealed unit and the device is cordless with a WiFi light, it's a Solo (cartridges). If a small fan blows across a disc, it's Air (Pods). If you add water plus drops, it's ultrasonic (oils).
- Don't own a device yet? Start with the diffusers hub to pick the family first — then the media picks itself.
The lifetime cost question
People sometimes ask which media is cheapest per month of fragrance. Rough math:
- Cartridges (Solo): $36–$40 per cartridge lasting 4–6 weeks = about $28–$40/month.
- Pods (Air family): ~$10–15 per Pod (multi-pack) lasting ~30 days = about $10–$15/month.
- Oils (water-based): highly variable by drop count. A single oil bottle stretches across many sessions.
Two caveats. First, "cheapest per month" isn't the same as "best value" — the Solo's smart-home control, cordless placement, and 4–6 week refill cadence buy real convenience you can't quantify in dollars. Second, Pods look cheaper on paper but you'll typically own more Air devices than you'd own Solos, so the total spend evens out. Choose the family that fits your life; the media cost follows.
